Terms of Use
[DRAFT for legal review, not yet in force] Text in square brackets is for the operator or the research team to complete.
These terms apply when you use the Rehumanize browser extension, the Android app, this website or the research dashboard. By installing or using Rehumanize you agree to them; if you do not agree, do not use it.
Who we are
Rehumanize is an independent project. [To be completed by the operator: the name and postal address of the person or organisation offering Rehumanize.] Contact: rehumanize-project@tuta.com.
Rehumanize Research is operated by a research team. If you take part in a study, that team’s own information sheet and consent form apply as well as these terms. [To be completed by the research team: its name and contact details.]
[To be completed by the operator after legal review: the minimum age for using Rehumanize.]
Using Rehumanize
- Rehumanize is free. You may use it for your own, non-commercial purposes. [To be completed by the operator: any licence under which the source code is offered.]
- Rehumanize works on social platforms we do not run and are not part of. Their own terms still apply to you while you use them, and we are not responsible for their sites, apps or content.
- We may change, pause or stop Rehumanize, or any part of it, at any time. We do not promise that it will always be available, and we have no duty to provide support.
- The research dashboard’s study data is only for the research team and the people it gives access to. Keep your password or access key to yourself, and tell us at once if you think someone else has used it. Anyone may open the dashboard’s demo mode, which shows example data, not real study data. Its real-articles set shows news articles as a website published them; they are not our words, and we do not stand behind what they say.
What a verdict means
- Every verdict is probabilistic. It is one signal among many, and it is not proof that a post was or was not written with AI.
- The check can be wrong in both directions: some posts written by people get flagged, and some AI-generated posts do not.
- A verdict says nothing about who posted the text or why. “No AI detected” is not a promise that a person wrote the post.
How you may use Rehumanize
- You must not use Rehumanize’s labels to harass or target anyone, including the authors of the posts it marks.
- You must not try to disrupt the service, get around its limits, or reach data you have not been given access to.
- You must not use Rehumanize to break the law or anyone else’s rights.
Our liability
We limit our liability to you as far as UK law allows. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
[To be completed by the operator after legal review: any further limits, for example a cap, as UK law and the law of the user’s country allow.]
Ending your use
You can stop using Rehumanize at any time by removing the extension or the app. We may stop your access to the service if you break these terms. What happens to your data then is in the privacy policy.
Your data
The privacy policy says what Rehumanize collects, why, and who receives it. The cookie notice says what the website and the dashboard keep in your browser. The deletion and data requests page explains how to ask about your data.
Accessibility
We test this website against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at level AA. If any part of Rehumanize is hard for you to use, write to rehumanize-project@tuta.com.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change materially, we will tell users before the change takes effect. [To be completed by the operator: how users are told, for example in the extension and the app.]
Governing law
[To be completed by the operator after legal review: the law that governs these terms and the courts that decide disputes.]
General
These terms, with the privacy policy and the cookie notice, are the whole agreement between you and us about Rehumanize. If a court finds part of them invalid, the rest still applies.
